Linda Jeschofnig, MS is President and CEO and Co-Founder of Hands-On Labs, Inc. (HOL) and a recognized industry leader in distance science education. In 1994 she assisted her husband, Dr. Peter Jeschofnig, a chemistry professor at Colorado Mountain College (CMC), with developing a chemistry kit that allowed his students to independently perform traditional laboratory experiments off campus. In response to the distance education needs of CMC and other local colleges, Jeschofnig created a small business producing chemistry kits and literally ran the initial operations from her garage. The academic success enabled by the chemistry kits fostered a demand from college professors for similar kits in other disciplines. Jeschofnig incorporated in 2000, secured liability insurance, found a manufacturer, set up a web site for direct online orders from students, and began working with distinguished science educators from other disciplines to develop additional kits in all the lab sciences. She ran the business from her home office in Glenwood Springs, CO through 2005. In 2006, she moved the business to Denver, took over its manufacturing operations, renamed the company Hands-On Labs, Inc (HOL), and re-branded its product as LabPaqs. Today HOL produces over 100 course-specific LabPaqs and has an inventory of over 250 effective experiments spanning all the lab science disciplines. In 2009 the company moved into a 28,500 foot facility, announced a strategic alliance with McGraw Hill, and significantly expanded its staff. As a result of Jeschofnig’s leadership, in May 2009 her company received a “Colorado Companies to Watch” award by the Colorado Department of Economic Development and International Trade and the Edward Lowe Foundation. She was also honored as the “Outstanding Women in Business” awardee for the Small Business category by the Denver Business Journal, and HOL was recognized as a “Top 100 Women-Owned Business” in Colorado by the Colorado Women's Chamber of Commerce. Jeschofnig has published her newest book entitled "Teaching Lab Science Courses Online", February 2011 by Jossey-Bass, a Wiley Imprint. The book is available at Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Borders and other book outlets. Jeschofnig holds a BBA in Accounting from the University of Houston, an MS in Management from Regis University, and is an inactive Certified Public Accountant. Prior to HOL, Linda worked for the Gulf Oil Corporation; Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Copartners; and also served for 18 years as an adjunct professor for Colorado Mountain College where she taught business, accounting, economics, and marketing. Jeschofnig was recognized as a Master Teacher during her tenure with CMC and is an alumni of the Central Rockies Leadership Program. She has been active in a variety of philanthropic and leadership activities in the U.S. and overseas. During almost a decade of intermittently living abroad she was instrumental in raising funds for the blind in Tunisia, taught ESL and small business development courses for the American Embassy in Madagascar, and conducted Quality Education Faculty Development programs for the Commercial College of the University of Addis Ababa in Ethiopia. For over 15 years Jeschofnig organized and conducted academic Study Abroad, ScienceFieldSchool, and Great Travels tours all over the world for CMC students and Colorado community leaders. Linda is multi-lingual and actively participates in world-wide Rotary International projects with her husband, a Rotary District Governor. She is passionate about science education because of the concrete progress and critical thinking skills it brings to the world and is particularly passionate about encouraging girls and women to pursue careers in science.
