A. Typically, your instructor reviewed a course specific LaqPaq and adopted it for their course, much like they adopt a text book. Q: Can I return a Hands-On-Labs, Inc. LabPaq if my school won't accept it or I drop the course?
A. Yes, provided the LabPaq has not been used, is in its original condition, and it has been less than 3 weeks since it was received. The shipping and handling fees will not be refunded and a restocking fee will be deducted from your refund. Therefore, it is best to MAKE SURE your institution will accept a LabPaq. Q: Why do purchasers have to agree to a liability waiver before they can buy a LabPaq?
A. LabPaqs have been safely used by responsible students since 1994, and there is no reason to doubt their safety when properly used. Yet, we have no control over other people's actions and cannot insure that they really will read, understand, and fully follow all safety precautions as instructed. We prevent people from using a LabPaq in an unauthorized or irresponsible manner.
Q: How long a period are Hands-On-Labs, Inc. LabPaqs normally used?
A: LabPaqs contain the number of traditional experiments that normally accompany a one-semester college course or a one-year in high school course. Each LabPaq is hand assembled and does contain some materials that have a limited shelf live. They are manufactured based on the timing provided by your educational institution and instructor and shipped when ordered by students taking the class to ensure that all materials are usable.
Q: The fluid in my spirit thermometer has separated. How do I re-unite the separated fluid in the measurement column?
Due to safety considerations, a spirit, rather than mercury, thermometer is included with LabPaqs. Occasionally, the fluid in spirit thermometers will separate during storage and/or shipping, but this is a correctable problem. The two methods described below can be used. Remember to wear hand and eye protection when you perform either of these correction procedures.
Heating Method: Holding the thermometer in an upright position and away from your face, heat it suspended in warming liquid or in hot air from a hair dryer just until the separated portion of the column enters the expansion chamber at the top of the thermometer. Be very careful and stop heating as soon as the fluid enters the expansion chambers. ver-filling the expansion chamber will break the thermometer. Now, while keeping the thermometer in an upright position, tap it gently against the surface of a rubber stopper. This should allow the gas separating the column to rise above the column. Allow the thermometer to cool slowly and store it in an upright position.
Cooling Method: Keeping the thermometer upright, place only the thermometer bulb in a solution of shaved ice and salt or dry ice and alcohol. Allow the liquid column to retreat into the bulb, then swing the thermometer in an arc. T his should release the trapped gas and permit it to escape above the column. Allow the thermometer to slowly return to room temperature and store it in an upright position.
Q: Do you offer any tutoring help for students having problems?
A. We do not provide tutoring help since that is the job of the instructor. Since a LabPaq is used in conjunction with a formal course of study, students can obtain additional assistance from their teachers, instructors or professors.
